Strictly Cool Dancing ~ March 2012.
On Thursday 29th March, St. James’ Junior School took two teams of dancers to E.M. Foster Theatre at Tonbridge School for the Strictly Cool Dancing Competition.
All the dances entered were choreographed on an Olympic theme. Year 4 and a pupil from year 5, performed London’s Calling a narrative dance which told the story of the Olympics coming to London. In the dance there were many Olympic sports including swimming, archery and gymnastics. There was also a London bus and a rowing boat created with umbrellas and Union Jack flags! Big Ben also featured.
Year 6 choreographed their own dance called Olympic Groves based on different types of Olympic sports.
At 7.30 the show began. London Calling were third to perform. Everyone did a fantastic job and the commentator said that the dance had ‘raised the bar!’ Two of the judges thoroughly enjoyed the musicality, floor sequence and use of props.
Olympic Groves were last to perform and they also performed their dance well. The judges were complimentary and were impressed that the year 6 girls had choreographed it themselves.
Unfortunately neither of the St. James’ dances won. The dance that did win was called ‘Inspiration’. Even though we didn’t win, all those who performed should be thoroughly proud of themselves. They were all amazing dancers.
