2011 Dragon Boat Festival at Bewl Water
Would you like to be part of a St James’ team?
Our aim is to raise money for Demelza Hospice Care for children and school equipment.
We need: Crews of 16 paddlers (plus a drummer) race in Chinese-style Dragon Boats over a 250 metre course. Crews do not need to be super fit or skilled to be successful - all that's required is teamwork and a good sense of fun!
Each crew will race with 16 paddlers plus the drummer. However, we encourage teams to involve a few extra team members and to make available roughly 20 people on the day. Each team needs to raise sponsorship of at least £2000 for their chosen charity... any prize money you may win on the day will be a bonus. The entry fee per team is £300 for Saturday which is, of necessity, non-refundable.
The winner of the race will pick up a cheque for £450 for their chosen charity. There are prizes for 2nd and 3rd places of £300 and £150 respectively. The team that raises the most sponsorship wins £450, and the best-dressed team will receive another £150 for its charity. Additional prizes will also be presented on the day, especially for good costume themes and well-decorated plot.
Team names need to be in by end of February latest.

Friday 24th October saw the launch of the new PFA, which combines both the infant and junior schools. To celebrate the launch, pupils will be able to release balloons before lunch, with their name on, to see which balloon travels the furthest. All the balloons and tags are bio-degradable and safe to the environment.
Children from the infant and junior school will take part. The PFA will also hand over to both the infant and the junior school a large cheque, which the junior school plans to use to furnish the new Science room.
The prize for the balloon which travels the furthest is a Family Cinema Ticket.PFA Beer, Band & BBQ Bash

It was a fantastic day , we made a brilliant £3940 profit! The PFA believe this is a record for an event, at the school. This means the PFA will be able to give the school nearly £16,000.00 raised from events over the last two years, for the building project.
The campers were all bright & breezy on Sunday morning (kind of) and they all stayed around to help clear up which was brilliant. Unfortunately we did run out of food, but we had sold 300 tickets in advance, which we had food for, after a final tally we think we had in the region of 650 people through the gates, so not really surprising that we ran out . The moral of the story is buy your tickets in advance next year then we know how many we are catering for!!
